The TIP3055 is a power NPN transistor that can be used in audio output stages. A transistor by itself is not a complete amplifier: stable operation also depends on the driver and bias circuitry, feedback, power supply, heat sinking and the speaker load.

What to check in the circuit
Use the diagram as a starting point for understanding the signal path. Identify the driver stage, transistor bias network, feedback components, supply rails and speaker connection before building. Do not assume a terminal label or component value from a generic drawing applies to every version of a circuit.
Thermal and electrical limits
Check the exact TIP3055 manufacturer datasheet for pinout, voltage and current limits, power dissipation and safe operating area. Maximum ratings are conditional; they do not mean the transistor can deliver that current continuously in an assembled amplifier. Choose the heat sink and speaker load for the actual circuit, and keep the transistor within its rated junction temperature.

Bring-up checklist
- Use an isolated, current-limited low-voltage supply appropriate for the schematic.
- Check transistor orientation, polarity, grounds and wiring before power is applied.
- Test with no speaker first; measure output DC offset and check for abnormal current or rapid heating.
- Connect a suitable speaker only after the output is stable, then increase the audio level gradually.
Safety: Audio amplifier supplies can store hazardous energy in capacitors. Disconnect power before rewiring, discharge capacitors safely and never connect a homemade amplifier to mains wiring.
