The Roland OCTAPAD SPD-20PRO backs up settings through its USB MEMORY port and a USB flash drive. This procedure does not use a USB-MIDI cable. The steps below apply to the SPD-20PRO; check the manual for the earlier SPD-20 or any other model before following them.
Back up all settings or one kit
Use a USB flash drive supported by Roland for the SPD-20PRO (Roland specifies up to 32 GB). Insert it into the USB MEMORY port, then follow these steps:
- Press SYSTEM, select USB MEMORY with the left/right buttons, and press ENTER.
- Choose SaveAll to back up all settings or SaveKit for a single kit, then press ENTER.
- For SaveKit, select the kit. Choose the destination and enter a clear backup name using the controls shown on the unit.
- Press ENTER to perform the save. Wait for the operation to finish before removing the drive.
Restore settings
In the USB MEMORY screen, choose LoadAll to restore the full backup or LoadKit to load an individual kit, then select the file and confirm with ENTER. A full restore can replace current settings, so save a fresh backup first if you need to preserve the current setup.
Keep the backup usable
- Label files with the instrument model, kit or full-settings scope, and date.
- Keep a second copy on another storage device or computer.
- Do not assume MIDI performance connections are the same as the USB MEMORY backup port.
- If the display does not recognize the drive or backup, check the official manual for supported media and file requirements.
See Roland’s SPD-20PRO USB MEMORY instructions and owner’s manual for the current model-specific procedure.
